J-RPG fans rejoice! For I bring tidings of a new game on the horizon that will bring this genre back to its former glory. Soul Saga from Disastercake Games is the latest anime styled RPG, and will be the first game from this new studio.
Soul Saga aims to reinvent the genre and breath fresh life into this once buoyant and fantastic genre. Although an RPG Soul Saga will move away from the traditional leveling system seen in many games and focus more on a system where players can earn skill points to spend on stats upgrades.
Disastercake Games also seem to have big ideas on how combat should play out. In Soul Saga you are tasked to only take five of your abilities with you into combat, this creates a deep level of strategy and planning.
Though the combat does not just play out in a passive nature with criticals and defensive bonuses being awarded in what sounds to be in combat quicktime events.
The story is still very much in the works as the studio decided it needed a full reworking! Disastercake Games say they aim to disclose the new story in December time.
Soul Saga really does seem to take a lot of the inspiration from the greats of the past and mix in a whole new level of gameplay from the modern titles. I have no doubt that the end product will be a great deal of fun, as it is currently looking great along with the gameplay sounding a great deal of fun.
Follow the development of Soul Saga on Disastercake Games site here, or on IndieDB here. Soul Saga has been billed to be released March 2013.
