Cacophonous Shooter, Cosmophony, Releases on Steam

Booming drums, audio cues, and fast-paced flying and shooting action fill Bento Studios’s newest game, Cosmophony. Designed to be challenging, with fans of games like Super Hexagon in mind, Cosmophony lets players test their reflexes in increasingly more difficult scenarios, backed by an entirely drum-based soundtrack from DJ Salaryman. Bento Studios says they wanted to create a game where the reward of finishing a level would be high, despite the rage factor.

Players control the heart of a goddess, fallen and in a dying universe, as she fights to fulfil her destiny. The environment mimics the music, with psychedelic backgrounds and stark color contrasts. Fly around obstacles, shoot what can be destroyed, and do it all to an ever-increasing kinetic soundtrack that gives cues as to the nature of the obstacles, but can also distract from the task at hand. With the game’s mechanics being as relatively simple as they are, the main goal is simply surviving. Objects that can be shot add to player point totals, in addition to the points awarded for the amount of time spent in active gameplay. Survive the longest, and feel the triumph.

Cosmophony released on Steam for Windows, Mac, and Linux on July 9. While the normal sale price is $4.99, there is a limited-time sale price of $2.49 until July 16. Follow @TeamCosmophony for updates about this game, and @Bento_Studio for information about this and other projects.
