UFHO2, a simple yet devilishly difficult strategy game from Tiny Colossus, is looking for funding on Kickstarter so it can reach as many platforms as possible.
Taking place in a hexagonal-shaped maze, UFHO2 looks rather simple and even cute, but the developers warn that it can become rather difficult, and we believe them! The maze consists of many smaller hexagonal rooms connected by corridors; the goal of the game is to get through the maze and collect the blue gems. The basics of the game is rotating these rooms to connect different paths, or disconnect others to prevent your opponent gaining the advantage.
The developers compare it to chess as each movement you make in this turn-based strategy battle becomes vital to the final outcome of the game. To raise the stakes, there are also powerups to collect which allow abilities like rotating more than one room at once, allowing more moves in one round, blocking paths and so on. The game also has a rich universe built behind the core gameplay which makes the campaign that bit more interesting as you take on various alien races.
UFHO2 will feature 4 player local co-op, an AI opponent (which UFHO1 fatally misses out) and online mutliplayer as well.
The developers say that while the game may look playable and even polished, they still need funding to finish up. In their words:
“..we still need a lot of time to finish the whole game in terms of assets, and we also want to port the game to another programming language so to make it available on different platforms. Without going into tech blabber, the money will be primarily spent on paying the expenses that we will have while developing the game. Some examples include the hardware used to develop, the software, licenses (such as the one to publish on the App Store), bills, and outsourcing (for programming the AI, for instance).”
They hope to make UFHO2 available on PC and Mac initially, and later on Android tablets and iPad. There is even a consideration of iPod/iPhone and Android ports as well, but that is a secondary step at the moment. As always, there are multiple tiers of rewards for donations going from a copy of the game, soundtracks and t-shirts to helping design parts of the game itself.
Head over to the Kickstarter page to pledge your money to help the developers of UFHO2 make the game they planned.
