The Oliver Twins are the original creative geniuses behind the much loved Dizzy series of games. They have tried to raise funds via Kickstarter to bring about a new Dizzy title: Dizzy Returns, it has sadly been far from smooth sailing for the duo.
The Kickstarter has been a slow and arduous one proving very much an uphill struggle for the duo. Launched in late November Dizzy Returns’ Kickstarter will be ending in just under one day. Sadly the campaign has not drummed up as much interest at they would’ve hoped for, as time of writing the project has only managed to attract just over £25,000 of investment.
Although not a tiny amount, when you look at the goal figure being set at £350,000 you begin to realise maybe there just has not been enough interest about revitalising this classic title.
It’s a strange state of affairs as personally I loved the Dizzy games growing up and I am sure many others did too. I have such fond memories of the games from my childhood and personally feel a new Dizzy game is just what is needed, however the appeal does not seem to be there currently.
It could be partly down to how video games have developed over these past years, maybe the classic style and gameplay in Dizzy are no longer viewed by the wider community as quite what it used to be. Or maybe it has just fallen on some bad luck in the time it has spent on Kickstarter.
Dizzy Returns does look a very promising revisiting of the classic adventure series, from the people who made it originally. The developers have a lot of experience in video games and promise to make Dizzy Returns an amazing new addition to the classic series.
With less than one day left to go it is very unlikely funds will be raised, however I do still urge you to head over to the Kickstarter page and find out why you should be excited for Dizzy Returns. I do still hope this game gets created anyway, but only time will tell if this can happen.
