Ever since Dust: An Elysian Tail won the Dream.Build.Play in 2009, pretty much everyone who has laid their eyes upon the game has been flabbergasted by its art and animation which is pretty much unlike any other game before. No ifs, buts or maybes – Dust is a gorgeous game. Don’t let our focus on the game’s visual candy fool you though, the gameplay certainly seems to match what our eyes are witnessing in terms of quality.
Dust was originally slated for a release in 2011 but unfortunately got delayed until 2012. To be fair, it’s a one man effort and given how much anticipating is already riding on it, we don’t blame him for wanting to work on polish a bit longer. It’s a case of everyone insisting that the developer takes as long as he needs to make the game as good as it bloody well should be. After the long wait, it seems that the game’s release is getting very near, so near that a Summer of Arcade release looks pretty likely.
Fueling this assumption are tweets from the developer, Dean Dodrill, as well as interviews saying the same thing. Those who played it at PAX earlier this year also noted that the game seemed very polished; with a very deep combat system, RPG-like mechanics, some free roaming and even crafting thrown in for good measure. This is a game that is really starting to hot up now. The most firm confirmation of an encroaching release is a listing on the Xbox Live Marketplace which contains some new screenshots too. That’s what you can see above.
Nothing more needs to be said about the game in all honesty. Only that it contains a deep lore behind it, fantastic visuals all around and deep brawler mechanics. Enchanting, in a word. Anticipate its release on Xbox Live Arcade soon!
