The founders of Big Blue Box, the original studio which created Fable, have left their corporate ties behind and formed a new indie studio where they have begun work on a “weird game”.
You have to wonder what’s left of Lionhead now that Molyneux has departed as well as five of its veteran developers. The latter of which include Simon and Dene Carter who are the creators of Fable, but they have left that part of them behind and along with Fable franchise Art Director John McCormack, Technical Director Guillaume Portes and Executive Producer Jeremie Texier, have formed Another Place Productions.
The idea was sown after Dene Carter released his own game, Incoboto, on the iPad under his solo studio name Fluttermind. Now, the team of five are looking to create something that you wouldn’t expect from them, being as they are responsible for Fable. Speaking to Pocket Gamer, Dene Carter said:
“We know exactly what sort of game we want to make. It’s a weird, weird game. I don’t mean weird like Incoboto, but weird as in, okay, that’s a really interesting approach to gaming.”
“There are various bits and pieces we’ve played with in the Fable franchise that are unusual, and we’ll be taking those and doing something very very special and unique.”
While Carter says that Another Place are looking to create something in the interest of what could be understood as innovative game design by the sounds of it, the team do have an audience they want to reach, two in fact.
“Let’s say people who have played unsophisticated games for the last couple of years who are looking for something more, and people like myself who want something that is deep, well thought out, atmospheric, and interesting. We want to bring those [camps] together and say, actually, we’re all gamers. Let’s craft something that is for all of you.”
There are no further details on this debut title from Another Place but we’ll keeping an eye out for them and let you know as soon as we do.
You can find out more information about Another Place Productions on the official website.
