^_^

Yes, ^_^ is the name of Ben Chandler’s new point and click adventure, which is now available to download for free and you should. You really should.

If you have ever played any of Ben Chandler’s games before you will be aware that you can expect personality and distinct, classy writing served by the bucketload. It’s not too surprising that Chandler’s new game, the strangely titled ^_^, is servitude to both of these traits and is consequently a fantastic little game.

You play as Julian the were-bunny who is already being mounted on my wall of indie game icons. Problem is, Julian wants to be human again and no-one other than a cranky witch is going to help him with that. To appease her, you will need to explore the screen and find the witch’s hair – she can’t come out in public without her hair! As you slowly work out things as you go, you will meet some very interesting characters and will more than likely be giggling to the cute naivety of Julian’s dialogue. There’s a jazzy soundtrack which can switched by changing the records on the gramophone and a musical note acts as a bank. It’s fair to say that I fell in love with the game straight away. To be quite frank, there is more personality, humor and goings-on in just the one screen of ^_^ than most adventure games have in their entirety.

If it isn’t obvious, I highly recommend downloading ^_^ and playing through it in a spare half hour. To do so, head over to Chandler’s page on BigBlueCup and click on “Download Now”.
