Kung-fu games never really seem “right” to me. I don’t know why, but whenever I take the controls they always feel vastly inferior to whatever kung-fu movie or event I’m able to watch. Not that I’m a huge fan, mind you, but I would like for my video games to accurately represent the martial arty style and, at the very least, give me the illusion of being a badass. Sadly that has yet come to pass which is why I’m very hopeful for Silver Dollar GamesOne Finger Death Punch a kung-fu game for Xbox Live Indie Games.

But first let’s get it out of the way. Yes I’m talking about the Silver Dollar Games. The company that puts out a lot of shovelware onto the XBLIG channel. They do have a few gems though hidden in their midst and I’m thinking this might be more of the latter.

Back to the game itself, as I’ve made mention here already it’s a kung-fu game where you play as a stick figure. The goal for the developers was to create an awesome kung-fu game that wasn’t terribly hard to get into. As such they’ve created a game that acts more like a sequential pattern game (i.e. The Impossible Game) than an action paltformer of sorts. Honestly, it looks like it could be the closest kung-fu “badass simulator” I’ve ever seen.

One Finger Death Punch isn’t quote ready for prime time as Silver Dollar Games says it’s still a couple months away from completion. Still, it’s nice to know the duo are working on games that are more in line with what we expect out of games rather than trying to turn a quick buck.
