IGM Arcade – ‘The Grinns Tale’ A Storybook-Styled RPG

The Game: The Grinns Tale

Developed by: Nexon

The Grinns Tale is a charming little RPG where you take control of a small village and help defend it against monsters threatening the land. The inhabitants of the village are called Grinns, and yes, they are, in fact, always grinning. The Grinns Tale offers surprising depth for an online arcade game, and thanks to it being on Kongregate and Facebook for free, players have the ability to save their progress and invest a good amount of time into this storybook-like tale.

The controls are incredibly accessible: click-dragging to move your heroes and villagers around the town to complete various chores and in combat simply clicking on a hero and dragging to an enemy is all that needs to be done to signal them to attack. During combat, enemies sometimes drop goodies that can be picked up by just mousing over the dropped item.

The monsters threatening the village are coming from a looming, distant, tower. The player and their hero companions take up the task of clearing the tower, floor by floor. At the end of each floor is a boss character that, once slain, drops important artifacts that can be used to construct different buildings within the town.  Using the resources collected from the other monsters, players can construct various upgrades (weapons, gear, potions, etc.) from the buildings which they have constructed.

As you can see from the screenshots I have included, these towns can become very complex. But don’t worry, you start off with a very solid tutorial which helps get you acclimated to playing the game.
