IGM Limelight – ‘Siege of Turtle Enclave’ – Turtles vs Owls

Welcome to IGM Limelight, fellow Greenlighters! Every day I take the pilgrimage through Steam Greenlight and return with the games I think are most deserving of the IGM Limelight.

Today we are featuring Siege of Turtle Enclave from Heftig, a game I actually found on the IGM forums. Siege of Turtle Enclave is a realtime 4x Strategy city building game, where the player controls a group of turtles as they defend against hordes of owls. It’s a concept that made me chuckle, though the gameplay is where the fun is at. Fighting waves after waves of owls using turtles would be appealing enough, but the fact Heftig made it into such a massive strategy game is simply awesome.

It’s not quite tower defense, nor is it simply 4x, and it sure as hell isn’t just a city building simulator. There are multiple aspects of gameplay, ranging from city building to hero management all mixed with Civilization’ish themes like research and base expansion. It is also worth noting that each campaign uses a randomized map to keep things interesting.

I chose Siege of Turtle Enclave for Limelight because there is not really much I can compare to this ridiculous sounding game. Steam really needs more games that break the mold like this, so it seems Greenlight was designed for games like Siege of Turtle Enclave.

The game is currently in alpha, but you can purchase it on Desura, IndieVania and Indie City.  The demo for the alpha is also available on IndieDB. I haven’t played this yet, but will report back on the forum thread with my thoughts once I get the chance to play the demo.

If you think this is a unique sounding game sounds worth a spot on the Steam Store, give it a vote! You can follow Heftig on Twitter  or follow his development blog on Tumblr.

Developers! If you have a game you’ve developed that is on Greenlight, and you would like to see it in an IGM Limelight article, post a thread on our forums! Can’t wait to see all of your games. Until tomorrow my friends!
