The UKIE is planning to launch a chart to measure actual digital sales of video games in February. The project will initially cover the PC market with plans to expand to Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network over the coming months. The digital chart has been running as a closed beta for a number of months with contributions from major industry players such as Sega, Square Enix, Ubisoft and Warner Bros. However, participation is open to all games and interactive entertainment businesses.
The basic chart will be made public, but any company that contributes their data to the chart will be able to view more detailed figures for the PC download market. CEO of UKIE, Jo Twist, said that such a chart will allow members to make informed decisions and will act as a tool in lobbying governments. This chart is to contribute to the knowledge regarding the digital distribution sector and how it is performing over time.
If you are an independent developer and wish to contribute to UKIE’s Digital Charts please contact UKIE Commercial Manager, Sam Collins, on firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to keep up to date with other developments, the UKIE can be followed on Twitter (@UK_IE).
