LD24 X0ut ss01

Well LD24 ended last week with X-0ut being crowned the winning title in the overall jam and it is indeed a very interesting title. X-0ut is a hyper stylized space shooter where you pilot a cube through this ever more difficult cavern. You aim is to destroy the blocks that continually fall towards you whilst collecting the companion cubes to evolve and gain more firepower and survivability.

The graphics in X-0ut are great as the blocks appear to be rendered in 3D so as they move they spin creating some very nice visual elements. Along with the laser beams from the cube you piolt this game is very visually interesting. The style very much takes some great old school elements and adds some more modern twists creating a great title to play.

The music is also great very midi and inkeeping with the overall retro theme being displayed here. Many titles did miss out on music as it is often the first thing to chop but it really shows in X-0ut how the music can indeed add quite a lot to the game overall.
LD24 X0ut SS02

X-0ut has highly addictive gameplay elements and being a one shot kill game it makes for a game you can essentially spend hours on to finish. However it is also a game you can pick up and play a couple of rounds and have a great deal of fun with making it an ideal game to play to take a break from work.

Average play time – 5 minutes

As I am especially bad at these space shooters I did not progress very far, however I did have a great deal of fun and it is really worth playing, after all it didn’t win the LD24 for nothing.

X-0ut can be downloaded from the LD24 page here, and be sure to stay tuned for the next LD event.
