It is that time of the year once again. The time commonly associated with ghosts and ghouls so I am of course going to be forced to revisit the Halloween theme for this day at least, being that it is Halloween and all.
If you have been following my series I spent all last week bringing you some awesome free mini titles. Check the Sunday Round Up here for a full list of spooky Halloween titles to keep you awake ALL night.
Today for Halloween I thought it was only appropriate to cover the legendary Slender: The Eight Pages (Slender). A free title created by Parsec Productions Slender is a small and experimental horror title that follows along the Amnesia route with the feeling of being exposed.
In Slender you start off lost in a large woods with only a flashlight to keep you comfort. You must collect all eight pages pertaining to the legend of the Slender to finish this nightmarish encounter.
As you accumulate pages the music grows ever more ominous and you begin to see the Slender figure darting about all over this forest, just be sure to not look directly at him. For looking at him can only end one way and believe me you don’t want to find out how it ends.
In Slender you must not look back but keep your eyes fixed straight ahead with your head down and your run button firmly pressed. Playing out very much in a similar way to the Blair Witch Project Slender really is a very inspired and horrifying title.
Parsec Productions do a fantastic job at creating a great level of atmosphere to the game that really does set it apart from most other “horror” titles. Although the game can feel dull at parts when roaming around the wood lost the short duration does create great tension for the game length.
With the addition of the pages able to spawn in random locations it can prove very disorienting and difficult to even come close to finishing this mini game. This does not even take into account the nerve you must have to finish the game.
Average play time – 5 minutes
Slender really is a very inspired title that takes the Amnesia idea and really makes it into something else. With it being Halloween I can’t imagine anyone wanting to do anything else with their time than being stalked by a supernatural being through a dark and creepy woods.
Slender can be downloaded via the official site here. With Parsec Productions working on a full Slender title I am sure we can expect big things from this small studio.
