I do still find it a little odd how we have been seeing ever more games focusing on what we would consider in real life to be “mundane”. The first big hit like this was Minecraft and since then we have seen a few games follow showing there is indeed a market in this area.
Today’s game Factorio has been created by a small team based in Prague and is ridiculously addicting. The whole idea of Factorio is to develop factories on alien planets whilst protecting them from invaders. It may not sound the most glamorous job around however the problem solving elements in Factorio are great, it really forces you to come up with some interesting solutions.
Factorio takes the mundane idea of setting up a factory and actually makes it a whole load of fun, and even throws in a couple of bad guys to try to mess you up from time to time.
Average play time – An hour
Although still in beta Factorio is already a very promising game with a lot of gameplay already in it. As the game develops more it will no doubt grow and improve even more this could well be the next Minecraft / Terraria.
Be sure to check out the Factorio demo and make up your own mind.
