The games in today’s Indie Links have you running on walls, talking to guns, punching skeletons, rolling carpets, and changing the seasons at will. Sound like good times?
The Other Brothers: Mario Never Had Dogs Like This (Kotaku)
“It’s been a while since we checked in on indie platformer The Other Brothers, so it was a treat today that I actually got my hands on the game.”
Listen: Stream A Bit Of The Soundtrack To Dennaton’s Hotline Miami (Venus Patrol)
“As much ink has been spilled on the seemingly senseless slaughter in Dennaton’s Hotline Miami as has blood in the game itself, but not nearly enough attention has been given to its sounds. Early demo versions of the game included a playlist of music both officially licensed and not — some having been placed in-game to set the mood as development progressed.”
Guacamelee Preview: Goat Jumping Through Dimensions (Shacknews)
“Drinkbox Studios, the team behind the two Tales from Space games, is working on yet another PlayStation Network exclusive. Guacamelee for PS3 and Vita is a Metroidvania-style 2D brawler set in the mystical world of lucha libre. Guiding me through this demo was Drinkbox’s Chris McQuinn.”
Sony Sure Picked A Bad Time To Release This Quirky Shark Game (Kotaku)
“It’s unfortunate that Sony chose to release Derrick the Deathfin smack in the middle of what I’m unofficially calling VIDEO GAME WEEK ’12. (I’ve got t-shirts.) So here’s a little shout-out for the little guy: if you can wrest yourself away from Dishonored,XCOM, or any of the other awesome games that are out this week, maybe it’s worth checking out!”
Touch Me I’m Slick: The Epileptic Fantasy Of Etienne Perin’s Gauge (Venus Patrol)
“Freshly updated, and thus providing me the perfect opportunity to give it my highest recommendation, is Etienne Perin’s Gauge, a game hasn’t seemed to receive the attention it richly deserves, even after some six months on the market.”
Live Free, Play Hard: The Week’s Best Free Indie Games (Rock, Paper, Shotgun)
“Point and click horror. Ludotravelogue. WAR RUG FACE. Oregon Trail with a physics engine. Collage ecosystem.”
Blocks That Matter Spinoff, Tetrobot and Co., Announced (IndieGames)
“Swing Swing Submarine has told IndieGames that Tetrobot and Co., “a sort of (spiritual) sequel” to Blocks That Matter (the XBLIG and Humble Indie Bundle hit), will release in early 2013 on Windows, Mac, Linux, and various touch devices including iOS. The few gameplay details available are that while the game will stick mostly to the original puzzle formula, the main character is not Tetrobot (the main character of Blocks That Matter). Tetrobot will be a very important part of the game, and its role is revealed in the photo above.”
The Joystiq Indie Pitch: Cloudbuilt (Joystiq)
“Indie developers are the starving artists of the video-game world, often brilliant and innovative, but also misunderstood, underfunded and more prone to writing free-form poetry on their LiveJournals. We believe they deserve a wider audience with the Joystiq Indie Pitch: This week, Johannes, Anders, Martin, Poi and the Coilworks team discuss going Greenlight and modern-retro challenges with Cloudbuilt.”
