We can’t get enough of Awesomenauts here at the IGM office (we do have an office, right?). Thankfully, neither has creators Ronimo Games, who continue to update and expand the game with fresh content. Patch 1.8 has just been announced will be uploaded to PC real soon. Here’s what you can expect:
The biggest addition is the brand new character Raelynn, a top class sniper and lover of guns. Formerly a member of the elite force known as SkyHawks, Raelynn was knee deep in a battle with on AI Station 404 in the year 3009, only to be ambushed and thrown into cryo sleep for a number of years.
Now awoken, Raelynn has been reunited with her favourite toy, the pulse rifle nicknamed ‘Cuddles’, and is ready to join the fray and perhaps gain some revenge on the bots.
Raelynn has four key abilities, two of which involve Cuddles that I’d hate to be on the end of. The Sniper Shot can take out a majority of the surroundings in one shot from a long way back, whilst the Protoblaster is a smaller form of Cuddles but almost just as deadly up close.
There’s also the expandable shield Time-Rift that can be created out of just about any terrain and a new jump mechanic that allows Raelynn to traverse every level much easier than some other characters, reaching high vantage points to take advantage of Cuddles’ sniping prowess.
As mentioned, there’s a handful of Halloween themed items and foreground/background elements included in the update, but it’s mainly just for atmosphere by the looks of things. Having said that, it’s great to see another roster update that fans of shooting from a distance will surely get a kick out of.
Patch 1.8 will be uploaded in time for the Halloween holiday, though no info has been announced regarding Raelynn’s inclusion in both Xbox 360 and PS3 editions of Awesomenauts as yet. As soon as that info is available, you’ll be the first to know.
