Joe Danger by Hello Games was released yesterday on Playstation Network. After spending a few hours with it yesterday, I can certainly recommend the game. Joe Danger reminds me of a mix of ExciteBike, Trials HD, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater (What!?). The first two comparisons are easy to understand – Joe Danger is a stunt motorcycle racing game with sandbox thrown in for good measure. Like Excite Bike, you can make your own courses and play around on your motorcycle. Joe Danger is also very similar to Trials because of the whole motorcycle thing and the similar physics and controls (Joe Danger is a little more casual though). So how the heck is JD like the Hawk? Well, Joe Danger’s adventure mode features an assortment of tracks and races – each with it’s own set of objectives to complete for stars. Many courses offer the chance to earn 5 or more stars from completing objectives such as ‘Hit all the Targets’, ‘Find the Secret Star,’ or ‘Combo the entire Level’ and then there’s level high scores as well.
Joe Danger’s Graphics are colorful and vibrant with some humorous animations. Joe himself exudes a lot of charm and the game packs some instant fun. After playing it for a few hours, the few complaints I have are that the tutorial/training was not in depth enough and that the difficulty ramped up a little quick and I soon found myself replaying levels for more stars. Joe kept me coming back for more though and does an excellent job varying the focus of each level on racing, combos, stunts, collecting, and more.
Look for a full review soon, but in the meantime do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
