Just Point And Click: ‘Adventure Game Engine’ Beta

A new simple-to-use game engine is being created that allows users to create point and click adventure games, merely by pointing and clicking. Adventure Game Engine is in its early stages at the moment, with only the v0.1 having been released, but it might be worth checking out to see its potential.

The more notorious engine designed for creating graphic adventure games probably doesn’t need to be named, just in case, it’s Adventure Game Studio. AGS, as it’s commonly known, is aimed for intermediate level developers and many hundreds of adventure games has been created using it. Adventure Game Engine, or AGE as it will now be known, seems to be an even more simplified version of that.

At the moment, AGE only allows users to create games for Windows, but it will be cross-platform in the future – targeted are Mac, Linux, iOS and Android. The engine works with standard XML assets only and separates the process of creating a game into six separate parts: scenario, scenes, objects, dialogs, players and cinematics.

You can see a preview of the engine being used in the video below, and you can download it for yourself over on the official website.
