Developed by Tasharen Entertainment, Windward is a fast-paced naval combat game set in a fantasy time period similar to the 17th century. Windward features a variety of different ships to select from that players can then take to the seas in multiplayer skirmishes. The game also comes stocked with a variety of skirmish maps with different objectives, and multiplayer support for up to 16 players at once.
The single player campaign creates a huge procedurally generated world complete with factions controlling territory that you can ally with or fight against. The gameplay consists of doing tasks to collect experience and eventually leveling up, pillaging everything in sight, and of course, finding treasure. Along with the singleplayer mode, a co-op mode is alternatively available.
The gameplay controls are very simple to use, and offer increased accessibility that similar games may not. Navigating your vessel across the seas, lining up enemy ships with your cannons, and escaping away, hopefully not aflame, can be done by even the most novice of players.
Currently, Tasharen Entertainment is giving away 3 copies of Windward to celebrate the game’s release. Simply go to the Tasharen Entertainment forums, and make a post explaining your favorite moment in Windward (the game is available for free through level 15 on the official website). The top three stories will be rewarded with their own copy of the full version of the game. Visit the forum post for all of the official rules.
Windward is currently available for $9.99 on Desura, where it holds a 9/10 average rating. Windward is available for both PCs and Macs.
