Akaneiro

Akaneiro: Demon Hunters is an ARPG from Spicy Horse Games, the same team that brought gamers, Alice: Madness Returns. Akaneiro is a twisted take on the Little Red Riding Hood story, set in turn of the century, Japan. The game features the character, Red, fighting demons, fierce forest animals, and mythical monsters. Red is a member of The Order of Akane, an elite ancient group of demon hunters. The Order of Akane are reminiscent of the Knights Templar in their devotion to duty and righteousness, and are constantly undertaking field missions to combat the evils that are the Yokai, straight out of traditional Japanese folklore.

Yesterday, Spicy Horse announced a developer interview between Ben Kerslake from Spicy Horse Games, and Tyler Carson “Pixabyte” on YouTube. Kerslake discusses their inspiration for Akaneiro, how the class-system works, multiplayer integration, and more. The interview features some previously unseen footage.

Today, Spicy Horse released a fresh batch of screenshots (seen below), to whet gamers’ appetites. The screenshots are all from a location called Jawbone Ravine, a string of craggy ravines that lead to deeper underground networks. It is within this area that the spirit of the Wolf Lord Moroko has been cruelly twisted by Ghostclaw Cultists, and players must eliminate the Ghostclaw High Cultist and destroy Moroko’s warped spirit.

Spicy Horse plans to have Akaneiro out on PC and Mac, with tablet version releases in the future. Follow Spicy Horse on Twitter, and visit the official website where you can register to partake in the Akaneiro closed beta.

Dropping a bit of opinion in here: I am really looking forward to this game. I just learned about it right before I set out to write the article, and the more I learned the more excited I became for Akaneiro’s release. Looks great. Can’t wait!
