The tower defense and first-person shooter genres will merge together this weekend for a humble admission fee of nothing at all. That’s because Sanctum, Coffee Stain Studio’s eminent entryway into the dynamic indie stratosphere, will be free to play this weekend through Steam.
The promotion will last from Thursday 3rd May until Monday 7th May and is accompanied by a very tempting discount sale. During the same period of time, the game will be subject to a 75% price cut, bringing it down to £1.74/$2.49/€2.49. Also enjoying a price reduction are the Sanctum four-pack, providing buyers with three additional keys to give to their friends at a price of £5.24/$7.49/€7/49, and the Sanctum Collection, containing the base game, every item of downloadable content and the game’s official soundtrack, all for £3.75/$5.00/€5.00.
Sanctum can be enjoyed as both a single-player and four-player co-operative experience. With that in mind, it’s certainly worth a look-in if you’ve got a few amigos on hand to savour the measured strategic battles of wits in the game’s sprawling sci-fi setting, and that’s without touching on the funky techno soundtrack the urban go-getters love so much.
To take advantage of the offer, head over to Sanctum‘s official Steam page. Anyone with the Steam client installed on a Windows PC should be able to download the temporarily free version of the game straight from their game library, although, as of this writing, it was still yet to materialise in this form.

Richard is an embittered Englishman with a warped outlook on the surrounding world. When he isn't rambling about his latest nugget of garbled contemplation, he's probably taking a look at the latest breakthroughs in innovative indie game design. However, behind his stony visage lies a shy, sensitive figure, so go easy on him, won't you?
