For me, music plays a huge role in my life overall. From the timely tunes found in games that add that extra ambiance, to the fast tempo tracks I listen to whilst running music is everywhere. Many games do not embrace music to the full extent I often feel they should, however this really cannot be said about 4Kore’s title Impulse.
In Impulse you are actually tasked to experience your music in a new and innovative way. Every aspect of the gameplay will be connected to the music. A fantastic proposition for an audiophile like me, it even allows you to use all your own music in the game.
The premise of the game is that your orb is a source of a powerful light that gives energy and life to everything around it. This power is what creates the music and the world around you, however it also draws the enemies towards you.
Every Time an enemy comes in contact with you, your orb loses some power. This results in the orb’s light dimming and the music gradually dissipating. Making it your purpose to fend off the relentless waves of enemies to progress to the end of the level, by essentially beating the music.
Each level will be one music track, going for a very “Guitar Hero”esque take on the music game genre. With the goal to survive through that level, which will give you a score inline with your success rate.
It is in this same Guitar Hero vein that you will have the option for a no fail mode to really allow you to chill out to the music. Allowing a much more placid take on the game, really changing the gameplay.
I really like this idea of a game, it is something a bit different and really allows you to get involved in music, in an interactive sense.
The fusion of music and game has always been an interesting one for me, if you feel the same I do urge you to seriously consider backing this project. If you do like what you see you can head over to the Kickstarter page here and read up more about Impulse. If you would like to view the development blog and the likes head to 4Kore’s site here.
