Fader

You have not heard of Chris Makris, but watch out for his name as it is surely on the rise. Makris is making a game called Fader all by himself. With a background in visual art, he has made an impressive but highly confusing premise come to life on the screen. The player controls two characters, although Makris says that this number increases, in a sidescrolling puzzle platformer that could easily match the mastery of Limbo and Braid.

Speaking to IndieGames.com, Makris says:

“I want the world, and the experience for the player, to feel alien, and I’m experimenting with a sort of dynamic ambient music created by the things you encounter and your interaction with the environment.”

As the player moves the characters across the screen, the world will seamlessly evolve as the game features no set levels instead favouring a continual progression. As you can see in the trailer, the game is realised by overlapping parallel spaces in which the two characters move about in separately. The challenge is that they are tied to the others world, so object can obstruct both (or 3 or 4) of the characters even if they prevent progression in one of the plains.

Fader is being developed for PC, but Makris hopes to the make the game available across Windows, Mac and Linux. There is not set release date but with the speedy progress of development, Makris says it will be along shortly.
