Playlab London is developing a new storytelling platform that deserves your attention. The Written World is a game in which you either play as the narrator, or the protagonist of stories written by the community.

On Playlab London’s Kickstarter for The Written World, they illustrate the game as “a game of Narrator versus Hero. The narrator controls the story; crafting a plot and presenting the Hero with encounters, and challenges. The Hero creates a character that she believes can make it through to the end. And when the story’s over it lives inside the Written World, for other people to read, re-use or play themselves.”

The Written World will divide the stories into chapters that the narrator will have written in advance. Within these, the Narrator will control the objectives and encounters with events and characters that the Protagonist will have.

The Protagonist will battle the Narrator by earning force points and exerting their will on the story. While there is a bit of rivalry in the creation, it seems that the storytelling will be a cooperative effort.

Unfortunately, the Kickstarter is over. However, The Written World is currently in development, and will be available for FREE when it is completed.

You can check out The Written World on their website, twitter, or Kickstarter.
