In the not-too-distant future the United Nations Space Program will launch the world’s first interstellar space vessel EDEN to a distant planet called Ibelis. However, upon entering the atmosphere of the newly discovered planet the ship suddenly breaks up and shoots out as many escape pods as possible. The survivors of the crash must now try to find some answers to the disaster and somehow start a new life in the process or die trying.
Thankfully the blurb isn’t a cheesy sci-fi movie staring Bruce Willis. It’s in fact the story of Xenocell from Bitgap Games, a persistent online MMO with an added dose of sandbox gaming. What does that mean you ask? It means much more control within the creation and development of your own surviving clan and the world around you mashed together with elements of character creation and RPG management you may normally expect.
There’s a mix of different environments on Ibelis all of which must be traversed and overcome, despite the hardships and trauma of the crash. From sand dunes to green pastures, snow and mountains that are just begging to be climbed all these environments will determine the kind of result you’ll get as your clan expands and defends their territory from other survivors.
There’s plenty to see and do within Xenocell too. Expect clan vs clan gameplay, a detailed crafting system, plenty of vehicles to get around and battle in plus a full selection of clan management tools. The ability to create what you want in order to improve your clan certainly builds on the idea of survival, and as MMO’s go it’s an ambitious but entirely welcome idea too.
Bitgap have been working on Xenocell for over four years and the Hungarian studio needs your help to get to the finish line. There’s currently a funding page on Indiegogo with which the studio hope to raise $20,000 to cover initial server costs during the game’s launch. Without servers, there’s no game, so if the team can reach the goal by mid November, Xenocell will launch not too long after that.
If you want to know more about Xenocell then click on to the official website, and be sure to give what you can. Hopefully we will have more on Bitgap’s MMO soon so stay tuned to IGM.
