Top down shooters seem to be one genre that all to often gets sidelined. You get plenty of side scrolling shooters or first person shooters, but top down is much more rare. I do often feel the top down shooter genre is often glossed over, but in actuality there have been a few greats within this genre over the years.
Zombie Killers Studios have been working on their latest title ZED: Absolution. A brand new top down shooter that takes inspiration from many retro classics to create a great fusion of old meets new.
ZED takes a new and highly inspired take on the biblical story of the war between heaven and hell. The basics are put in place with the two warring factions consisting of Lucifer and Archangel Michael, however Zombie Killers Studios put a novel Sci-Fi twist on proceedings.
A deal is struck between the two factions which involves holding a competitions every year as part of the arrangement. As part of the arrangement a hellish gauntlet of despair and mystery gets introduced for the two sides amusement. As you may of guess by now you are going to be thrown into this pit and forced to fight your way out, but don’t expect a fair fight.
You play ZED a battle hardened Seraphim Angel who has been banished from the heavens. You hope that by fighting your way literally to hell and back will allow you to re-claim your spot in heaven once more. Check out the trailer below for more information on how the game actually plays out:
ZED has a full levelling system which will allow you to tailor your battle angel to your own personal tastes. This allows for a more customizable and tailored experience, and is somewhat a standard in modern day games in one sense or another.
If this is not enough for you to sink your teeth into there is also to be a whole bunch of other awesome features included within ZED, such as; global leaderboards, stat tracking (people love numbers), Co-op gameplay, Oculus Rift integration, and ZED also takes full advantage of the Brass Monkey platform.
For anyone not yet familiar with the Brass Monkey control method be sure to check out the official site here and give it a go. It uses your mobile device as a controller and works surprisingly well.
ZED is currently working within the Greenlight system on Steam, and with your vote they can make the leap. Be sure to up vote ZED on Greenlight here, and if you would like to find out more about the game be sure to check the official site here.
