Eight Days In Convoke Preview

Eight Days in Convoke is an upcoming gravity driven action game for PC reminiscent of the 1979 game Lunar Lander. The game sees you controlling a UFO attempting to abduct people while managing to not deplete the ship’s health and fuel reserves.

 

The game starts off simple with you being required to abduct only a couple of people at a time in very basic level designs with minimal obstacles. Controlling the UFO takes time getting use, being able to only control its direction through the use of fuel. Eight Days in Convoke will be unforgiving at all times if you are reckless in how you control the UFO or utilise the fuel reserves . Once you do get use to the gameplay mechanics and using the UFO correctly can you then start really enjoying the game.

 

As you progress through the game the level designs start to get more complicated with a larger variety of obstacles, more people to abduct all while avoiding enemies, such as missile launchers. It’s in these later levels when the game starts to get really challenging, and for those that will find themselves repeatedly dying over and over again quite frustrating.

 

What makes Eight Days in Convoke really standout though is its music and graphics that gives the whole game a sort of X-Files and Twin Peaks mysterious vibe. The game uses no forms of color with everything in the game from the UFO to the people and the environment and obstacles themselves being all black, with the exception of the white mist in the background, which suits the game quite well.

 

The game’s music though is on an entire different level altogether. Rarely does in-game music really jump out to me but what Eight Days in Convoke does with just one continuous song is both relaxing for a game of this genre but also suits the games atmosphere so well at the same time.

 

If you enjoy titles similar to Lunar Lander or want to check out something different altogether then I do recommend that you keep an eye on Eight Days in Convoke, which is scheduled to be released January 1st, 2012.
