‘Ravaged’ Free DLC Launches: New Weapons, Vehicles, Map, And Voice-Chat

The “Apocalypse” content pack recently released for Ravaged, a post-apocalyptic first-person shooter from 2 Dawn Games. The “Apocalypse” DLC is one of three planned, and free, DLC releases for Ravaged, the other two are expected monthly releases, sometime in January and then the last one is to release in February.

Dustbowl is the new map, and as seen from the screenshot included above, it’s one of the bigger maps Ravaged boasts. Dustbowl is very vehicle-friendly, which helps promote the fact that the “Apocalypse” DLC comes with a handful of new vehicles like the massive dump truck, which is essentially a roving fortress. Along with the dump truck, the DLC brings into the rusty arena a new transport chopper which can transport up to three players; one player flies, and the other two get to use mini-guns. The quads and trikes now have the space for a second player to piggy-back on for a quick ride around, and the new tractor-tank helps balance out gameplay against the Resistance’s initially unrivaled anti-vehicle tank.

Ravaged was lacking a bit in the aspects of teamwork, so the new vehicles are all teamwork-based. Whether players are simply letting someone tag along for a ride, or lining up a gunner for a strafing run, all of the vehicles offer something in the name of teamwork. 2 Dawn has even added in a voice-chat feature, allowing players to communicate verbally in game. Another minor change illuminates the location of squad members more clearly on the user-interface.

Some other game mechanics have been altered like gun recoil and iron sight size, but arguably the largest change is the weapon-unlock system which is now a main feature of the game. When Ravaged launched, the game presented players with set load outs for every character class. Pick a class, pick from a handful of weapons available, and jump into the fray. Now, in an attempt to add replay value to the game (as if the game itself wasn’t already really fun) 2 Dawn locked all but the basic weapon layouts, and is forcing players to gain experience to unlock all of the different guns. On top of the original arsenal, “Apocalypse” adds in a nail gun, a DAO-12 shotgun, an MP7 sub-machine gun, an MK16, and an AN94. There are also silencers and scopes available for the AK and M16, and a golden skin unlockable for the .357 Magnum.

The “Apocalypse” DLC pack is free for all current Ravaged owners.
