Endless Space

At this moment in time, the hugely impressive 4X strategy title Endless Space sits exclusively on Steam in its alpha state which can be purchased and played right now. In fact, Dominic already had a look and was more or less blown away by it as you can read in his preview. By the time that Endless Space is ready for release though, it will also be available elsewhere, even in boxes in real life stores. That date, it has been confirmed, will be August 24th 2012.

The game, like StarDrive last week, has been picked up by Iceberg Interactive you see and they’ll be sorting out the game’s distribution. There are plans to bring Endless Space to other digital distributors and to localise it for French and German players too but whether those versions will land on the same date is unknown.

Like we said, you can check out Endless Space over on Steam with a 25% discount at the moment on both the Admiral and Emperor Special Edition.

More information on Endless Space can be found over on the game’s official website.

I would avoid this game. Amplitude studios claimed it would be in retail stores, but you can’t find this anywhere in the USA at a retail store. I called my cousin in Germany and had him send me a retail version over. But now, the problem is how Amplitude is handling all the free patches and updates. They will only distribute them through Steam and this leaves out all the players who bought this as a retail box set – that doesn’t require Steam. Bad move on Amplitude’s part. Definitely pass on this game or you will get stuck with a DVD version of the game that you can never update (and no, I don’t have Steam and I am not interested. It doesn’t state ANYWHERE on the box that you will be required to create an online account with a 3rd party company to receive FREE patches and FREE updates.) Major failure for Amplitude to treat customers so poorly.
