About the game

Second Life is an online virtual world. It is technically not a game, and this fact is emphasized by the developers, Linden Lab. According to them, this is a virtual world where people can live a second life online, where there are no set objectives or no created conflicts. The virtual world is similar to that of MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games). This is a massive world with tens of thousands of residents (used to be a million earlier). It is online, and you play the role of a character that you can create online. You interact with other residents, participate in activities, trade, and socialize with each other.

Second World offers 3D content and is available through Linden’s website or other viewers. It is an open-source game open for all above the age of 16. This is one of the older games (or virtual worlds) that was released in 2003. It is available for Windows and macOS platforms. It has its own second life server that people access to be a part of this virtual world. The world has its own currency (Linden dollar) that can be bought by paying real dollars. During its initial world, it was extremely popular, which is why there were more than a million people in this virtual world. The community of the virtual world is still going strong even today.

What is Second Life all about?

Second life is a virtual world that allows players (or residents) to create avatars of themselves. You can choose to be anything – man, woman, animal, or even a pumpkin. You get to customize your character in different ways. You can even have more than one account, allowing you to establish more than one avatar. You can make your avatar look like you or like anyone/anything else. Since this is not a game, it allows you to be a part of the world by creating content. You get access to a 3D modeling tool, using which you can create objects for your virtual world.

Being a part of the virtual world

Second world has an economy of its own that is flourishing. You can pay rent, buy property, exchange goods, and carry out other transactions using the Linden dollar. A report from the developers showed that in 10 years, transactions worth $3.2 billion were carried out in the virtual world. You can become an entrepreneur, create your own product or service, and sell it. You can make a fortune and become a billionaire in the virtual world, even if you couldn’t become one in the real world. This is one of the attractions that bring people to this world. They find things here that they don’t get in real life.

There are multiple applications in the game that allow residents to express themselves. They can create art through paintings and live music. Second Life has even been used in educational institutions to conduct online courses. The Maldives even opened an embassy in Second Life. You can find people of your interest, your religious denomination, and be part of an online social network in the virtual world. Romance is possible, as is sex. You can get married in the virtual world and have a family of your own. The world has given the freedom to many people who spend time here getting away from their problems, disorders, and issues they face in the real world. Second Life allows you to escape from the real world into one of happiness and fun.
