Top Websites That Hosts Sims 4 Custom Content

Finding good Sims 4 custom content is easy if you know where to look and we’re here to point you in the right direction. Although the most recent entry in The Sims series is very enjoyable in its vanilla state, there are definitely ways to make it even better. Official expansions and stuff packs are one way to enhance your experience. Then, you also have things like user-created mods and custom content (CC), which come in many shapes and sizes.

But is this user-created content safe to download and install? For the most part, yes. Although this isn’t official content, you generally don’t have to worry about messing up your game files or your computer by downloading mods or CC. There are always certain exceptions, of course. But don’t worry because in this article we’re only going to talk about websites that are 100% safe. Before we talk about the websites themselves, though, there are a few important things we want to touch upon.

Sims 4 CC vs Sims 4 Mods

If you’re new to the series or simply wasn’t interested in user-created content before, you’re probably wondering about the difference between mods and CC. The two sounds very similar on paper, and they are to some degree. But they’re not the same thing. This article is exclusively about CC so I think it’s a good idea to explain the difference between the two.

Custom Content, or CC for short, refers to small user-created modifications that don’t change how the game functions. These usually come in the form of new objects, clothes or hairstyles for your sims. Some players only use CC to add a few new recolors to their game but you can also find a lot of other great stuff out there. A few examples include jewelry, accessories, hairstyles, clothes, and more. Custom content is usually available in bundles but you can also find individual objects or pieces of clothing.

Mods, on the other hand, do change how the game functions. In fact, some of them do it in some pretty significant ways. Mods come in all shapes and sizes. These can range from small ones that add new careers or traits to huge ones that act like complete overhauls. Installing mods tends to be a bit riskier than installing custom content. However, there’s usually nothing to worry about if you’re downloading them from a good website.

What is Maxis-Match?

While browsing websites for custom content you’re very likely to come across the term ‘Maxis-Match’ at one point or another. This is a term often used by creators to indicate that their content is similar in style to the official content. Which, of course, comes from the developers and designers over at Maxis Studios.

Maxis-Match content looks very stylish and colorful, much like The Sims 4 itself. The term also applies when the CC contains text written in the language used in the game. By comparison, custom content that goes for a realistic look or uses text written in English is generally not considered ‘Maxis-Match’. Some players don’t really care about this label but if you’re looking for a genuine Sims 4 experience, we recommend always grabbing custom content marked as ‘Maxis-Match’.

How to Install

sims 4 cc

If you’re a veteran of the series you may know that installing custom content for one of the previous titles was a bit of a hassle. That’s no longer the case with The Sims 4. Maxis made it very easy for players to add custom content to their latest title so there aren’t that many steps to worry about. Simply follow the instructions down below and you’ll be able to install the CC you want in no time.

Go to one of the websites covered in the next section and download the CC you want to install.

Unpack the archived file using a piece of software like WinZip or WinRAR.

Locate the file with the “.package” extension. Sometimes you can directly download the package file for certain    CC. In those cases, you don’t have to worry about step 2 anymore.

Now, you’ll want to move the package file to your ‘Mods’ folder. The path may differ depending on where you   installed your copy of The Sims 4. By default, though, you should be able to find the folder by going to ‘This PC -> Documents -> Electronic Arts -> The Sims 4.'

Simply copy the package file and paste it inside the Mods folder. That’s all there is to it. The custom content is   now installed and should be accessible the next time you boot up The Sims 4.
