5 Indie Games That Will Mess With Your Head

If there is one genre or collection of games that can only really be found within the indie gaming scene, it is experimental games. On my many trips around the net I often stumble across some games that astound me for various reasons. I am specifically interested in games that blow my expectations out of the water and completely surprise me by bending or just completely abandoning typical conventions of game design.

Below is a list of 5 games that can certainly be filed as experimental. Understandably they range from the outright wacky to the slightly disturbing. Without further ado I present to you, 5 games that will mess with your head. Click on the link next to each game’s title to play them for free!

1. game, game, game and again game (secrettechnology.com)

This is not so much a game as it is a ‘digital poem’. Yeah I know, slightly pretentious but this first entry into our list shall certainly make you think about a few things. It looks messy and is intentionally very aggressive in its design. Some may find that the game is too crazy at times, but bear with it if possible – its unique scribble book presentation is worth sticking with. Plus it will be over in 10 minutes anyway.

2. p0nd (peanutgallerygames.com)

Zen games. You love them, or you hate them. I tend to like them if I am honest – I can always spare a few minutes to relax. But without saying too much, this game has something special about it. Put it this way, it has made it into this list for a reason.

3. Super Skill Jump (mcfunkypants.com)

Mario. He can jump. And it takes skill. Nothing more. Just play the game. See you in a minute or so.

4. Covetous (newgrounds.com)

Covetous is a game that was made in just 48 hours. Yet, its small playing time will be something you will be unlikely to forget. Seriously. It’s disturbing and is probably the game most worthy of this list. I love it, but I am a disturbed individual anyway.

5. This Is The Only Level (armorgames.com)

Just to leave you in a better mood after playing the previous four games, I bring you This Is The Only Level. Unlike the others, this game will make you happy, make you think and will mess with your head in a very satisfactory and interesting way. Hey, you also play as an elephant. Nuff said.
