Upcoming IndieCade EAST

IndieCade is a festival of indie games, especially offline games and big games, like 16 Tons and Twistianapolis 500. It’s a few days of playing games that blur art, message and interactive experiences, and for most of us, it’s a chance to finally get our hands on indie projects too big and intensive to play at home. IndieCade also features postmortums on indie games, creative challenges for game developers and awards for independant games. The Indie Games Magazine has covered both the IndieCade festival itself and some of the awesome games from IndieCade. IndieCade takes place in October, in Culver City, just outside Los Angeles.

I’m really pleased that IndieCade is now launching an East coast version! The first IndieCade EAST will take place February 16-17, at the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, as well as other locations around the city. The “Come Out and Play” games festival has taken great advantage of Manhattan’s physical characteristics to play some very big games, so I’m really interested to see what these other New York City locations and games will be. The February IndieCade EAST event will feature the first East Coast IndieCade Game Jam as well.

If you’re not already checking in at IndieCade.com, now would be a good time to start. IndieCade also has a Tumblr, which adds that IndieCade EAST will be “like IndieCade’s sarcastic, all-black-wearing cousin.” Thanks! Sounds about right… (I love IndieCade, but feel free to insert your favorite joke about out-of-towners lost on the subway right here.)
