Everything You Wanted to Know About Streets of Rage 4

About the game

Streets of Rage is a classic game, which is known as Bare Knuckle. This game started in the 1990s and was developed as a trilogy with three parts. The game is an action game involving fights and beating-up opponents, which made it very popular. The electronic music in the game series was a highlight. The initial trilogy was developed and offered by the well-known gaming company SEGA.

After many decades, the game is back in its fourth version – Streets of Rage 4. Fifteen years after the release of the third edition of the game, the fourth edition is due to be released in 2020. The game is jointly developed by Lizard Cube, Dotemu, and Guard Crush Games, and is published by Dotemu. The game is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Windows platforms.

It is available in both single and multiplayer modes. The music was one of the attractions of the original game. The new version will also have music that will attract the game players. The original composers of the game- Yuzo Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima- will compose music for Streets of Rage 4. Three other well-known game music composers, Keiji Yamagishi, Hideki Naganuma, and Yoko Shimomura, will also be composing music for this game.

Characters and gameplay

All the fans of the earlier versions have appreciated the game trailer that has been released. It seems to be a befitting successor for the original hit series. The main character in the original series was Adam Hunter. He was a boxer and a police detective. In this version of the game, Adam’s daughter Cherry Hunter is introduced. She is capable of fast attacks, and her aerial moves are just what gamers would love. Cherry has a guitar; so, you can expect great music.

Cherry uses her guitar to attack, and she also has an ax to attack enemies. She wanted to be part of the police, but later, her love for music led her to join an electro-rock band. She even uses her guitar strum to shock opponents. Apart from Cherry and Adam Hunter, two other popular characters from the series, Axel and Blaze, are also going to be seen in the game. Axel Stone was the main character in the original series.

He was a police detective known for his special attack techniques- dragon wing and dragon smash. His uppercut was referred to as the Bare Knuckle. The other character, Blaze, was a female police officer, not so strong in attack but very fast. Apart from Adam, Cherry, Axel, and Blaze, two more characters are going to come in. It has been hinted that more characters could be added to the game to make it more interesting.

The earlier versions of the game had pixel art. Streets of Rage 4 has 2D art that is entirely hand-drawn, making it a visual delight. Those who have played the teaser have appreciated the smooth moving animation. Coming to the gameplay, it is essentially a fight or brawler game where you need to beat up the opponents and defeat them. There are different stages or levels in the game where you have to keep thrashing enemies and defeat them. There are more types of fights in the game and more combo fights. You can even get cues by watching carefully and know when the enemy is going to attack so that you can take quick action.

This is a multi-player game, and you can play with others to take on the enemies. Of course, there can always be casualties for fellow players while attacking an enemy. There are ways in the game to overcome this. The game has two main kinds of attack moves. The basic attack moves are the ones you would use more. There are special attack moves for you to use; however, you lose some of your health with these moves; so, you need to keep an eye on your health level.

Features

Some of the interesting features that this game would have include:

  • There are hazards around you, like fire and electricity, that you need to watch out while fighting.
  • You can play the game on your own and bash up the enemy, or you can collaborate with friends to have more fun.
  • The controls are simple and make the gameplay easy.

The background has scenery and people busy with their work, making it look natural.

  1. From the youTube video I must say I love the graphics on this … and find it very funnyhow so many of the enemies look like straight ports from other games :D. The Mui Thai fighters look like that guy from Fatal Fury and the first level boss looks like Sasuke Uchiha! 😀 😅

This just makes me want to beam over the head with an electric guitar all the more! 😀
I for one will be buying this on day one! 😀
