Foundation – Build the Most Enduring City with this Guide & Walkthrough

The game and its storyline

The idea of building a city entirely as per your design is one that would interest anyone. Building games are popular as they allow gamers to do exactly this. Foundation is a game that allows a player to organically build a city in the medieval era. The highlight of this game is the ability to build monuments that would endure with your city. The game has elements of resource management, city building, and narrative encounters.

You can recreate ancient cities using the many building tools available. The game allows you to create abbeys, castles, and mansions that tower over your city. The best part of the game is that it offers mod support. You can create your own characters, buildings, and events and make the game run as you wish. This is a great opportunity for you to allow your creativity to shine through with scenarios, maps, and quests.

Being a city builder game, there is no fixed storyline. It is you who take the game forward by building a city. You will start with an empty patch of land with forests, hills, and plains. The game is all about how you use this land effectively to create your city. Build the city, feed your citizens, keep them secure and happy, and erect towering monuments – these are the elements of Foundation, a truly creative game that can uplift your mood.

Guide and walkthrough for Foundation

You start the game with resources that need to be collected and used efficiently. You can collect berries for food and stones for construction. Look for the brush icon on the menu bar on the right side of the screen and highlight the areas with resources. You need to mark them blue to start collecting resources. AI elements of the game will do the rest for you.

You need wood and stone to start building. Start the game by building a woodcutter’s camp and a stonecutter camp where your workers can stay and start collecting resources. You also need a gathering hut to collect food. Make sure you construct the building near the resources so that workers don’t have to travel much. You need to hire workers to start the actual work.

Once you start getting the resources, commence construction. Remember that in medieval times, there was no structured building planning. All buildings were constructed close to each other for convenience of travel. The hammer tool on the menu bar is the one you need to select to start constructing buildings.

Once you get gold, you can expand your city. There is a map icon on the menu bar that you can use to buy new territories. Note that you need to pay taxes for new territories. As you expand your territory, there are many new things you can do:

1) You can build fishers’ huts near the water to fish for food.

2) You can build hunters’ huts to hunt for food and leather for clothing.

3) Build a sheep farm to produce wool, and create clothing by building a weaver’s hut.

4) Your city is growing, and you need more food. You need a wheat farm with windmills to start producing bread.

5) Build a coal hut to produce tools for your workers.

6) Build a market as early in the game as possible.

7) Store the resources and products you create by building a warehouse.

Once you get your basic buildings in place and get your city moving, it is time to build monuments. You can build churches, monasteries, lord manors, wooden keeps, and castles. Each of the buildings has a unique feature. Three elements in the game allow you to take the game in a particular direction.

If you increase your piety score, you can build more monasteries. Increasing goodness will allow you to develop a good relationship with the peasants. Increasing the fealty score helps you build keeps and dungeons. As the game progresses, events occur that bring forth new scenarios. You can start trading with other kingdoms and send soldiers on missions.

As the lord of your city, it is your duty to keep your citizens happy. Ensure they have food, housing, and clothing, and increase their happiness levels. The game is all about managing resources efficiently and ensuring you have all that is needed to run a city. Keep collecting resources, and you will unlock upgrades. Use them to build more buildings and enhance your city. It is not a game that requires winning but is a pleasant and relaxing game allowing you to be happy in your own virtual world.
